Tooth bonding is procedure to apply a material called resin to restore or improve the appearance of the teeth. Procedure includes application of resin like material and then hardening it using a special light beam. It is easiest, cheapest and most time can be done in single visit itself.
Where Bonding can be used?
To improve appearance of a discolored or chipped tooth
To change size or shape of teeth
Close spaces between teeth
It protects the root of teeth if gum has receded and Can be alternative to amalgam fillings
Time required for completion of procedure
Required time is 30 to 60 minutes per tooth and can be finished in one sitting if number of teeth which require bonding is not too many.
Procedure
Step one: First resin material which matches rest of teeth is selected
Step two: Tooth surface is abrade little to make surface uneven and rough
Step three: liquid conditioner is used on tooth
Step four: Resin bonding material is applied and ultraviolet light or laser is used to harden it.
Step five: Further trimming and polishing is done so that it matches rest of the teeth
Precaution to be taken after procedure
Till 48 hours after the procedure a patient need to avoid Tea, coffee, smoke and chewing hard things to avoid staining or break in applied layer. Beyond that no precaution other than regular hygiene is required.
White filling
Dental filling is used to fill cavities in teeth with fillings of silver, gold, porcelain, silver amalgam (which consists of mercury mixed with silver, tin, zinc, and copper), or tooth-colored, plastic, and glass materials called composite resin fillings. Out of this composite filling which is also called white filling is most popular. To do filling first decayed area is removed and then composite resin is hardened with help of blue light.
